We traveled by boat from Old Mondoro to Chiawa.

The beautiful public areas at Chiawa

Our beautiful chalet

Game drives were scheduled as in the other camps. A morning drive and an afternoon/night drive. There were lots of other activates offered: walking safari, canoeing, fishing and pontoon on the Zambezi. We stayed with the game drives and one afternoon poontooning on the Zambezi. Here is a very thirsty elephant with water buck and baboons at a lagoon.

Very sleepy lions. The young ones still have their spots.

Oh, those pesky flies!!

Sunset and time for the red light to search the night. Sunsets are just amazing in Africa.

Impalas are so graceful. Can you spot the one who got away to live another day?

Elephant getting those high leaves and shaking the tree to bring down more food. Notice the warning eye for us not to get too close. Always obey their space - it belongs to them.

Morning herd of buffalo. I think the message is "don't get any closer".

Such a beautiful reflection.

Helmeted and Crested Guinea Fowl.

Female elephant and her very small calf.

Our sleepy lions on day 2 just chilling.

We saw many baobab trees on our journey, but this one was especially regal!

A visitor to our chalet.

Monitor Lizard - nice to see smaller animals as well as the larger ones

Meves Starling

A Small warning!

Once again, my favorite kudu family.

Matriarchal elephant herd with their babies.

Our night drive leopard under the red light.

We were the first on site for the lions bringing down a water buck. I am not showing the actual attack because it took a long time for the 2 female lions to suffocate the water buck.

The graceful Impala!

Lots of birds. Be sure in the third video to keep your eyes to the far right and you can see the croc right among the birds trying to steal fish.

Yellow Billed Stork, Saddle Billed Stork, Marabou Stork, White Crowned Lapwing, Grey Heron, Hamerkop, Black Stork, Great White Eget, Egyptian Goose, African Spoonbill

The road always belongs to the elephants.

The drive back to camp can be a bumpy one.

Lots of visitors right off the back porch!!

Our afternoon on the Zambezi River and our sundowners.

African Jacana

Egyptian Goose and Goslings

Kudu drinking from the Zambezi on the Zimbabwe side.

Our last sundowner at Chiawa

Beautiful private dinner on the veranda.

Waterbuck, Impala and Baboons on our last morning drive.

Just a lazy Hippo grazing in the early morning.

Our last morning and a visit to our lions. Looks like they are now well fed after the killing of the waterbuck. Look at those full bellies.

We were so lucky to see a Verreaux's Eagle Owl on our last outing.

My favorite bird of all the Quelea. They are the most abundant bird in Zambia. They do these wonderful munnerations just like our starlings. We saw them at every camp. They will also wake you up in the mornings!

Off to Tongabezi. Boat ride halfway and then jeep to Jeki airstrip. Plane back to Mfuwe and then another plane to Livingston where we will be picked up by Tongabezi staff.
